The MacBook Air 13 is the MacBook for most people. Apple sells it with 16GB of unified memory and a 512GB SSD as the starting configuration, so you are not forced into an upgrade to get a comfortable laptop. It is fanless, light and quiet, and it covers coding, office work, light photo editing and everything else a student or professional does day to day.
Everyday speed. The Apple M5 has a 10-core CPU, and Apple lists up to 32GB of memory on higher configurations. With 16GB as the base you can keep many tabs, a code editor and a video call open together without stutter.
Screen and body. The 13.6 inch Liquid Retina display goes up to 500 nits and supports the P3 wide colour gamut. A 12MP Center Stage camera sits above it, and Touch ID is built in.
Ports and battery. You get two Thunderbolt 4 ports, MagSafe charging and a headphone jack, with Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6. Apple quotes up to 18 hours of battery from its own web browsing and video streaming tests.
The catch. Only two ports, and no HDMI or card reader. The base screen is a standard Liquid Retina panel, not the brighter XDR panel on the MacBook Pro.
Price. Flipkart lists the 16GB and 512GB model from ₹1,31,990 on 24 October 2026. Amazon India shows the 13 inch Air only with 1TB storage, at ₹1,64,990 to ₹1,72,490, so compare before you pay for storage you do not need.
Apple MacBook Air 13 inch (M5, 16GB, 512GB) vs the competition. It costs roughly ₹60,000 more than the MacBook Neo and adds 16GB of memory, MagSafe, Touch ID, a 12MP camera and a faster chip.

The MacBook Neo is Apple’s low cost MacBook. It uses the A18 Pro chip from the iPhone, a fanless aluminium body and a 13 inch Liquid Retina display. It launched in India at ₹69,900 for the 256GB model, and Amazon India lists it at ₹71,890 against an MRP of ₹79,900 on 24 October 2026.
Everyday speed. The A18 Pro has a 6-core CPU and a 16-core Neural Engine, and the Neo has 8GB of memory. That is enough for browsing, documents, streaming and light creative hobbies. It will feel the limit sooner than the 16GB Air if you multitask heavily.
Screen and body. The 13 inch Liquid Retina display reaches 500 nits and shows a billion colours. It comes in Silver, Blush, Citrus and Indigo, and there is a 1080p FaceTime HD camera.
Ports and battery. There are two USB-C ports, one USB 3 and one USB 2, plus a headphone jack. Apple quotes up to 16 hours of battery. There is no MagSafe.
The catch. Touch ID is only on the 512GB model. The ports are slower than the Air’s Thunderbolt ports, and 256GB of storage fills up quickly without an external drive.
Price. Amazon India lists it at ₹71,890 on 24 October 2026. Apple’s launch price was ₹69,900 in March, so check the current MRP before you buy.
Apple MacBook Neo (A18 Pro, 8GB, 256GB) vs the competition. It costs about ₹9,000 less than the Neo with 512GB and Touch ID, and about ₹60,000 less than the MacBook Air 13.

The MacBook Pro 14 with the M5 Pro is for people whose work is limited by the laptop. It has 24GB of memory and 1TB of storage in this configuration, a Liquid Retina XDR display, and the ports that the Air leaves out, including HDMI and an SD card slot.
Everyday speed. This configuration has a 15-core CPU and a 16-core GPU with 24GB of unified memory. Apple lists the M5 Pro with up to 64GB of memory, and the M5 Max goes further for those who need it.
Screen and body. The Liquid Retina XDR display reaches 1,600 nits peak HDR brightness and 1,000 nits sustained, with a contrast ratio Apple lists at 1,000,000 to 1. A nano-texture option is available for reflective rooms.
Ports and wireless. The M5 Pro models have Thunderbolt 5 ports, plus HDMI, an SDXC card slot, MagSafe and a headphone jack, with Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6. The M5 Pro supports up to three external displays.
The catch. The price is the obvious one. It is also heavier than the Air. If you only browse and write, this is wasted money.
Price. Amazon India lists this configuration at ₹2,69,900 against an MRP of ₹2,99,900, and Flipkart lists the same configuration at ₹2,99,900, on 24 October 2026.
Apple MacBook Pro 14 inch (M5 Pro, 24GB, 1TB) vs the competition. It costs ₹1,00,000 or more over the MacBook Air 13 and gives you a far brighter display, many more ports and a much stronger chip.

The MacBook Air 15 has the same M5 chip, 16GB of memory and 512GB of storage as the 13 inch model, with a 15.3 inch Liquid Retina display. It is the choice for people who want more screen space and still want a thin, quiet laptop.
Everyday speed. It uses the same M5 with a 10-core CPU as the 13 inch Air, and the tested 15 inch configuration has a 10-core GPU. Speed is not the reason to pick it. Screen size is.
Screen and body. The 15.3 inch Liquid Retina display reaches 500 nits and covers P3 wide colour. The camera is a 12MP Center Stage unit and Touch ID is built in.
Ports and battery. Two Thunderbolt 4 ports, MagSafe and a headphone jack, with up to 18 hours of battery by Apple’s test. Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 are included.
The catch. The price gap over the 13 inch model is large for what is mainly a bigger screen.
Price. Amazon India lists it at ₹1,61,900 against an MRP of ₹1,79,900 on 24 October 2026. Apple’s launch price in March was ₹1,44,900, so check the current price.
Apple MacBook Air 15 inch (M5, 16GB, 512GB) vs the competition. It costs about ₹30,000 more than the 13 inch Air at Flipkart’s price and gives you a bigger display and no other major change.

The 512GB MacBook Neo has the same chip, screen and body as the 256GB model, with twice the storage and Touch ID. Apple’s own page says Touch ID is only on a specific model, and that is this one.
Everyday speed. Same A18 Pro and same 8GB of memory as the cheaper Neo, so speed does not change. The extra storage helps if you keep photos, downloads and projects locally.
Screen and body. The display and fanless aluminium body are the same. Colour options are Silver, Blush, Citrus and Indigo across the range.
Ports and battery. One USB 3 port, one USB 2 port and a headphone jack, with up to 16 hours of battery by Apple’s test.
The catch. At ₹80,890 it is close enough to the MacBook Air 13 that the Air is worth a look, because the Air has 16GB of memory.
Price. Amazon India lists it at ₹80,890 against an MRP of ₹89,900 on 24 October 2026. It launched at ₹84,900 in March.

Questions other guides skip
The questions most MacBook lists leave out
These are questions buyers keep asking about these exact models. I checked each against Apple India and the Amazon and Flipkart listings on 24 October 2026.
1 · Why does the price differ between Apple, Amazon and Flipkart?
Amazon and Flipkart sell below the MRP, and the MRP itself has moved since Apple’s March launch. For example the 256GB Neo launched at ₹69,900 and Amazon lists an MRP of ₹79,900 now. Always check the live price and the exact configuration.
2 · Should I buy the Neo 512GB or the Air 13?
The Neo with 512GB costs ₹80,890 on Amazon. The Air 13 with 16GB and 512GB starts at ₹1,31,990 on Flipkart. If you can afford the gap, the Air gives you double the memory and a stronger chip.
3 · Is the Neo’s USB 2 port a problem?
It matters if you copy large files to an external drive, because you should use the USB 3 port. For a mouse, a keyboard or charging a phone, it is fine.
4 · Can I upgrade memory later?
No. Memory and storage are part of the chip package and the SSD on current MacBooks, so choose the configuration you need on day one.
5 · Is AppleCare+ worth it?
It covers accidental damage for a fee, which is useful if you travel with the laptop or give it to a child. Check the current price on Apple’s India store.

MacBook buying guide FAQ
Which MacBook should I buy in India in 2026?
For most people the MacBook Air 13 with the M5 chip and 16GB of memory is the best choice, from ₹1,31,990 on Flipkart on 24 October 2026. If money is tight, the MacBook Neo at ₹71,890 on Amazon is a real MacBook for study and everyday work.
MacBook Neo or MacBook Air, which is better?
The Air is the better laptop, with the M5 chip, 16GB of memory, MagSafe, Touch ID and a 12MP camera. The Neo is the better price, at roughly half the cost. Pick the Neo if you browse, write and attend classes, and the Air if you multitask or plan to keep the laptop for five years.
Is 8GB of memory enough on the MacBook Neo?
For browsing, documents, streaming and video calls, yes. If you run a code editor, a browser with many tabs and several other apps at once, you will feel the limit, and the Air with 16GB is the safer buy.
Does the cheapest MacBook Neo have Touch ID?
No. Apple says Touch ID is only on a specific model, and that is the 512GB version at ₹80,890.
Is the MacBook Air 15 worth the extra money over the 13 inch?
Only if you want the bigger screen. The chip, memory and storage are the same, and the 15 inch costs roughly ₹30,000 more.
Do I need the MacBook Pro?
Probably not. Video editors, photographers and developers with heavy workloads benefit from the M5 Pro, the XDR display and the extra ports. For everything else the Air is enough.
Which MacBook is best for students?
The MacBook Neo for budget, and the MacBook Air 13 for a laptop that lasts through college and your first job. Apple also offers education pricing at its India store, so check it before you buy. See my laptops for students guide for Windows options.
Which MacBook is best for coding?
The MacBook Air 13 with 16GB of memory handles most coding work. For large builds, Docker and several virtual machines, the MacBook Pro 14 is better. My laptops for coding guide covers Windows too.
Why are MacBook prices different on Amazon and Flipkart?
Sellers, colours and configurations differ, and the 13 inch Air with 512GB appears only on Flipkart in my check, while Amazon India lists the 13 inch with 1TB. Always match the exact memory and storage before you compare prices.
Can a MacBook run Windows software?
Not directly. macOS runs Mac apps, and many popular tools have Mac versions. If you depend on a Windows-only program like Tally, buy a Windows laptop instead.
