Short answer: buy the Qubo Q400 for a bedroom or the Qubo Q600 for a hall. For a large room with a long warranty, take the Cuckoo Respure . For a quiet, no-fuss machine, take the Coway Airmega 150. Want to cool the same room too? See our Best AC under ₹30,000 guide.

Every October and November, AQI in north India routinely crosses 300, and searches for air purifiers peak in the same weeks. We rebuilt this guide on 17 October 2026 around the three things that decide a good purchase: CADR (how fast it cleans), room size and filter replacement cost. Prices below are live from Amazon.in.

The ranking

How we ranked these air purifiers

Geekman has covered consumer tech for over 10 years, and this ranking is built the way our buying guides always are: research first, then a hard look at the numbers. For every model we compared official specs, features, price, filter cost, room-size fit, warranty and service reach, and checked live store prices. Each score is out of 10: Performance 40% (CADR, noise, features), Value 40% (price plus filter cost) and Service 20% (warranty and brand support).

Pros and cons

What we like
+ High CADR for the price
+ Cheap replacement filters
+ App control and auto mode
+ Good result in a 25-minute PM2.5 test (Q600)

What we don’t like
– No remote control (Q600 review)
– Fan is audible at the top speed
– Brand’s room-size claims are generous

Qubo Q400 and Q600 air purifier: what you get and the real numbers

The Qubo Q400 and Qubo Q600 are two sizes of the same idea: a plain, app controlled HEPA purifier with big airflow for the money. The Q400 carries a 4 layer filter of pre filter, activated carbon, nano silver and True HEPA H13, rated for 9,000 hours, and draws 35 W. Its CADR is printed as 300 on one spec sheet and 330 on another, so I plan with 300. The Q600 is the bigger sibling, rated at up to 600 sq ft with a 15,000 hour filter and a CADR printed as 450. Both work with the Qubo app, Alexa and Google Assistant, and both use a True HEPA H13 filter with a dust sensor and auto mode.

My take: pick by room, not by badge. The Q400 is a bedroom machine for around 150 to 250 sq ft in a real home, whatever the 400 sq ft claim says. The Q600 is for a hall or a big open living room of 250 to 350 sq ft. In a 25 minute test, the Q600 took a room from 404 to 40 micrograms per cubic metre of PM2.5, which is a strong result. Run the Q600 on auto in the evening, and on the Q400 leave it on sleep overnight. If you want to clean a whole flat from one spot, neither will do it through closed doors.

Qubo Q400 running cost and filter life in rupees

Electricity is small. At 35 W flat out, 8 hours a night for a year is 2,920 hours, which is about 102 units, or roughly Rs 820 at Rs 8 a unit, and on auto it will be lower. The bigger cost is the filter. The Q400 filter is rated for 9,000 hours, which lasts about three years at 8 hours a day, but only about 375 days if you run it round the clock. The Q600 filter is rated for 15,000 hours, so about five years at 8 hours a day and a little under two years on 24 hours. Heavy Delhi winters will shorten both, so treat the rating as a ceiling and check the filter indicator in the app.

Living with the Qubo Q400 and Q600: app, noise and the missing remote

The app shows indoor air quality, and on the Q600 it also pulls outdoor AQI from official stations, which is a nice way to decide when to shut the windows. Auto mode adjusts fan speed to the dust sensor. The Q400 has touch controls, a child lock and a 55 dB rating at the top end. The Q600 measured about 38.6 dB at its quietest and 61.8 dB at peak one foot away, so the highest speed is clearly audible. Neither comes with a remote, and the Q600 has no temperature or humidity sensor. If you want a remote for a bedside purifier, look at the Honeywell Air Touch V5 or the Coway units instead.

Qubo Q400 warranty, service and what to check on delivery

The Q400 comes with a 12 month carry in warranty covering manufacturing defects, not physical damage, so read the Q600 card on delivery. Carry in means you take or ship the unit to a service point, so ask where yours is before you order. There is nothing to install: unbox, place it with about a foot of clearance on every side and plug in. Check that the filter is in place with the plastic removed, pair the app before you throw the box away, and photograph the serial plate. Qubo is a newer brand than Honeywell, Philips or Coway, so its service reach is thinner outside the big cities.

Who should buy the Qubo Q400 and Q600 and who should skip them

The shortfalls are no remote, a loud top speed and room size claims that are generous. The warranty is 12 months where rivals give two years or long motor cover. Against the Cuckoo Respure you get lower filter costs and an app, but a shorter motor warranty. Against the Honeywell Air Touch V5 the Q600 has the longer filter rating, but Honeywell has an established service network and a 2 year cover. The Coway Airmega 150 is quieter and simpler but moves less air. Buy the Q400 for a bedroom and the Q600 for a big hall if you want airflow and app control for the money. Skip them if you want near silent sleep or a remote.

Cuckoo Respure air purifier: the big room pick with the long motor warranty

The Cuckoo Respure is a Korean brand’s True HEPA 13 purifier, and the version this guide covers is the copper filter model with a CADR of 408 m3/h and a coverage claim of 570 sq ft. The filter has copper woven into the media, which the maker says helps break down trapped microbes, and the filters are extra large so air meets less resistance. It has a BLDC motor, a built in fine dust sensor and a TVOC sensor that adjust the fan, and an 8 year motor warranty. Be careful with the name: another Respure variant is published with a CADR of only 106, a 30 W draw and a 6.7 kg body, so match the model and the 408 figure on the carton.

My take: this is the purifier for a big bedroom or a hall of 250 to 350 sq ft where you want strong airflow and a long motor cover without a smart app. A 408 CADR in a 300 sq ft room works out to about 6 air changes an hour on paper, and real rooms deliver less, but it is still plenty for dust and smoke season. I would run it on auto with the TVOC sensor active in a house near traffic or a kitchen, and drop it to the gentle mode at night. The 570 sq ft figure is the maker’s number, so treat it as a ceiling and plan for a room of 300 to 350 sq ft.

Cuckoo Respure running cost and the filter question

This is the part I cannot fully answer. The maker does not publish a filter life in hours or months, the power draw is not listed for the 408 model, and the price of a replacement filter is not printed either. What I can do is give you the working method. A BLDC motor in a purifier of this class typically draws well under 40 W at medium speeds, so 8 hours a night costs roughly Rs 400 to 800 a year at Rs 8 a unit, and that is my estimate. For the filter, ask the dealer for the replacement price and the interval in writing, and divide it by the months you expect. The card in this guide notes the filter is dearer than the Qubo and Honeywell ones.

Living with the Cuckoo Respure: modes, sensors and noise

The speed range runs from a gentle baby mode to a turbo plus mode, and the dust and TVOC sensors move it between them on auto. The BLDC motor is the reason this class of purifier sounds smooth rather than whiny, though no decibel figure is printed for the 408 model, so listen to it in the shop at the lowest and highest speeds. It has no app, which suits people who only want the machine to work. The XL filters are twice the standard size, so they sit in a bigger cartridge and need more wall clearance. The design has won a Red Dot award, and in a living room it looks better than most boxes.

Cuckoo Respure warranty, service and filter replacement

The headline is an 8 year motor warranty. That covers the motor, not the filters, the sensors or the electronics, so ask what the general warranty period is and what counts as a motor failure. Cuckoo is a smaller name in India than Honeywell, Philips or Coway, so ask where service is done in your city before buying, and whether a spare filter is in the box. The card in this guide says one is, so confirm it with the seller. Keep the invoice, register the unit if the brand asks, and photograph the serial plate and the filter seal on day one.

Who should buy the Cuckoo Respure and who should skip it

The shortfalls are the missing filter life number, no app, a smaller service network and a price above the Qubo for similar airflow. Against the Qubo Q600 you lose app control and outdoor AQI but gain a longer motor warranty. Against the Honeywell Air Touch V5 you get a bigger claimed CADR and copper media, but Honeywell has cheaper filters and wider service. The Philips AC3220/60 moves more air but costs more to run. Buy the Respure if you have a big room, want strong airflow, value the long motor cover and are happy with no app. Skip it if you want published filter costs or the widest service network.

Coway Airmega 150 air purifier: quiet, simple and the numbers that matter

The Coway Airmega 150 (AP-1019C in India) is the unfussy one. It uses 3 stages: a washable pre filter, a urethane carbon filter and a True HEPA filter, with the HEPA and carbon rated for 8,500 hours each. The Indian spec shows a CADR of 303 and a room size of 355 sq ft, noise of 22 to 49 dB, a 38 W maximum draw and a weight of 5.5 kg. It has an auto mode that reads airborne particles, a touch panel, a colour coded air quality light and filter alerts. There is no app and no Wi Fi, and I think that is part of the appeal.

My take: this is the purifier for a bedroom or a small living room of 150 to 250 sq ft where you want something that just works. I would put it on auto in a bedroom and let the sensor decide. A US test with the same hardware took about 33 minutes to clean a 728 cubic foot room on top speed, close to what the CADR predicts, which is honest but not fast. If you live in Delhi NCR in November and your room is above 250 sq ft, step up to a unit with a higher CADR. For an ordinary city home, the Airmega 150 is a comfortable fit.

Coway Airmega 150 running cost and the filter set

Running cost has a nice shape. At the top speed the machine draws about 31.5 W, and on speed 1 only about 2.4 W, so a night on low costs almost nothing. Even 8 hours a day at the top speed is about 92 units a year, or roughly Rs 740 at Rs 8 a unit, and real use will be far lower. The filters are the cost: the card in this guide lists the filter set at Rs 4,699, and at 8,500 hours that is about 2.9 years at 8 hours a day, so around Rs 1,600 a year. Run it 24 hours a day and the filter lasts about a year, so the yearly cost triples.

Living with the Coway Airmega 150: noise, filters and sleep

Noise is where Coway earns its price. A test measured about 35 dB on the first speed at 3 feet, 40 dB on the second and about 56 dB at the top, and the Indian spec lists 22 to 49 dB. In a bedroom on low, you will not notice it. The cartridge style filter slides out easily and the pre filter can be washed, so maintenance is a two minute job. One weak point is the carbon: it is a carbon coated fabric rather than loose pellets, so it handles smoke and odour less strongly than a bulky carbon bed. The light can be turned off for sleep.

Coway Airmega 150 AP-1019C warranty, service and delivery check

Ask for the warranty length in writing, and read the card on delivery and ask for the motor cover and the general cover separately. Coway sells through its own channels and large retailers, and its service network is better than most newer brands, but check the pin code. There is no installation: unbox, remove the protective bag from the filters, place it with space around it and plug it in. Make sure the model on the carton is AP-1019C, because Coway sells several look alikes, and keep the invoice for any filter or motor claim. A fake filter in an old unit voids the cover on some brands.

Who should buy the Coway Airmega 150 and who should skip it

The shortfalls are no app, a CADR below the Qubo Q400 for a higher price and a filter set that is not cheap. The carbon stage is also modest. Against the Qubo Q400 you get quieter running and a simpler design, but less airflow and no app. Against the Philips AC2220 you pay less but get a louder, less allergy tuned machine. The Coway Airmega 50 is the smaller, cheaper cousin for a very small room. Buy the Airmega 150 if you want a quiet, simple bedroom purifier from a brand that does service. Skip it if you want a big hall, an app, or lowest filter cost.

Xiaomi Mijia 4 Compact air purifier: the small room smart buy

The Xiaomi Mijia 4 Compact (model AC-M18-SC) is a small, light cylinder that costs little and brings app control. It has 3 layers of filtration, a pre filter, a HEPA filter and an activated carbon filter, a CADR of 230 m3/h and a rated power of 27 W. It is 220 mm wide and 355 mm tall, weighs about 2.2 kg, and has TUV Rheinland allergy care certification. Xiaomi says up to 400 sq ft, but that figure assumes only 2 air changes an hour. It runs on the Xiaomi Home app and works with Google Assistant and Alexa, and the sleep mode runs at 20 dB.

My take: this is for a room of up to about 150 to 180 sq ft, like a child’s bedroom, a study or a small master bedroom with the door shut. At 230 CADR, a 150 sq ft room gets about 6 air changes an hour on paper, which is good. In an independent test, it took roughly 15 to 20 minutes to go from red to green in auto mode. Put it two feet from the wall and keep the door closed. Do not buy it for a hall or a kitchen: it struggles in larger spaces, and I would not rely on it for cooking odours.

Xiaomi Mijia 4 Compact running cost over a year

This one sips power. Tests put it at about 0.7 units over 24 hours of use, which is Rs 5.6 a day at Rs 8, or about Rs 2,040 a year if you ran it at full tilt round the clock. Realistic use is far lower. At the 27 W rating, 8 hours a night is 0.216 units, around Rs 1.70 a night and Rs 630 a year. The filter is the unknown. The India filter price is not printed, and Xiaomi does not state a filter life in hours, so ask for the price and the interval before you buy, and plan on one change a year in a polluted city.

Living with the Xiaomi Mijia 4 Compact: app, display and noise

The app is the best part. It lets you check air quality, change modes, set timers and schedules, share access with family and get filter reminders. The unit itself shows only Good or Poor, not an exact AQI, and the app has no historical graph, which I find a pity for the money. Sleep mode turns off the display and runs at about 20 dB, so it is the quietest unit in this guide on paper. The filter slides out easily. Odour removal is the unproven part: the carbon layer is thin and the odour claims lack support, so treat it as a dust and pollen machine.

Xiaomi Mijia 4 Compact AC-M18-SC warranty and service

Read the warranty card on delivery and ask what is covered and for how long. Xiaomi has service points in most big cities and a decent track record with phones, but air purifier repairs are rarer, so ask the seller how a fault is handled and whether replacement is faster than repair. Setup takes five minutes: plug in, install the Xiaomi Home app, connect to a 2.4 GHz network and add the device. Check the model code AC-M18-SC on the carton, because Xiaomi sells several purifiers with similar names, and keep the invoice and the box until the first filter change.

Who should buy the Xiaomi Mijia 4 Compact and who should skip it

The shortfalls are a thin carbon layer, a coverage claim that is optimistic, no exact AQI on the unit and an unpublished filter price. Against the Coway Airmega 50 you get nearly twice the CADR and an app, but Coway has the quieter reputation and a long motor cover. Against the Qubo Q400 you save money, but the Qubo covers a much bigger room. The Honeywell Air Touch V5 has cheaper, published filters and a bigger room rating. Buy the Mijia 4 Compact if you have a small room, want an app and a low running cost. Skip it for kitchens, big halls or heavy smoke.

Honeywell Air Touch V5 air purifier: the cheap filter all rounder

The Honeywell Air Touch V5 is a 4 stage purifier with a pre filter, a nano silver anti bacterial filter, an H13 HEPA filter and an activated carbon filter. It is rated at a CADR of 380 m3/h and 589 sq ft, draws 35 W, weighs 3.5 kg and measures about 31 by 16 by 40 cm. It has an AQI LED display with a PM2.5 reading, touch controls, three fan speeds, a timer, a child lock and a filter change indicator. The filter is rated for up to 9,000 hours or a year, and Honeywell gives a 2 year carry in warranty. An independent test found no remote, so do not expect one.

My take: this is a good living room or large bedroom purifier for 200 to 300 sq ft. The 589 sq ft claim is generous, and I would plan on about half of it. In an independent test, it brought a corner of a room from AQI 100 to 30 in 25 minutes, with PM2.5 starting at about 402 micrograms. That is a solid result. I would run it on auto in the day and on the lowest speed at night. It is a machine for people who want strong performance and cheap upkeep, and who do not care about a fancy app or a remote control.

Honeywell Air Touch V5 running cost and the Rs 2,500 filter

This is where the V5 wins. The replacement filter costs about Rs 2,500, and Honeywell suggests changing it every 6 to 12 months depending on air quality. In a polluted city with the machine on for 12 hours a day, plan on a change every 9 to 12 months, so about Rs 2,500 a year. Electricity at 35 W is small: 8 hours a day is about 102 units a year, or Rs 820 at Rs 8 a unit. So all in, the V5 costs roughly Rs 3,300 a year to run hard. That is far below the Philips AC3220, whose filter is about twice the price.

Living with the Honeywell Air Touch V5: display, noise and controls

The display is easy to read from across a room, and the PM2.5 number gives you something to watch. The test noise is about 30.6 dB at the lowest speed and 55.5 dB at the top, measured one foot away, so the lowest setting is quiet enough for a bedroom and the top setting is a normal fan noise. The spec sheets disagree on app support: one spec sheet lists app control with Alexa, while a test found no remote, so check the box for the features you need before you pay. The body is plastic and light, and moving it between rooms is easy.

Honeywell Air Touch V5 warranty, service and delivery check

The warranty is 24 months carry in, covering manufacturing defects but not physical damage. Carry in means you take or send the unit to a service centre, so check where the nearest one is. Honeywell has a wider footprint than Qubo or Cuckoo, and the filters are easy to find. There is no installation. Remove the packing from the filters, because buyers sometimes run the unit with the plastic still on. Place it with a foot of space around it, plug it in and check that the filter indicator is clear. Do not put it behind a sofa or a curtain, because the air intake needs open space to reach its rated flow. Keep the invoice and the carton and photograph the serial number for any claim.

Who should buy the Honeywell Air Touch V5 and who should skip it

The shortfalls are an optimistic room claim, unclear smart features, no remote and a carry in warranty. Against the Qubo Q400 the Honeywell has the longer warranty and the wider service, with a similar filter rating. Against the Cuckoo Respure it has cheaper filters but a shorter motor cover. The Philips AC2220 is far quieter but dearer. Buy the V5 if you want solid cleaning, cheap filters and a brand that is easy to service, and you are fine with a plain unit. Skip it if you want a silent bedroom machine, a proven remote or a polished app, and check the carton for the features before you pay.

Philips AC2220 air purifier: the quiet one with the 3 year filter

The Philips AC2220 (AC2220/60, the PureProtect Quiet 2200 series) is built for silence and low upkeep. It has a 3 layer system of a pre filter, active carbon and a NanoProtect HEPA filter, with a CADR of 420 m3/h and a coverage of 50 square metres, about 540 sq ft, on the GB/T standard. Philips rates the filter FY2200/30 for a recommended change every 3 years. Noise runs from 13 dB in sleep mode to 45 dB at turbo, power is 28 W, and it weighs 4.1 kg. It works with the Air+ app, Alexa and Google Home, and holds ECARF allergy certification.

My take: this is the purifier for a light sleeper, a nursery or an allergy prone bedroom of 200 to 300 sq ft. A CADR of 420 in a 250 sq ft room is a lot of air movement for a machine that can drop to 13 dB. I would run it on auto during the day and on sleep overnight. The 540 sq ft figure assumes the standard test, so plan on about half. If you live in Delhi NCR in peak season, the 3 year filter rating is optimistic, and I would expect to change it within a year or two.

Philips AC2220 running cost: low power, long filter

Power is small. At 28 W, 8 hours a night for a year is about 82 units, or roughly Rs 650 at Rs 8 a unit, and a machine that spends most of its time on auto will be far below that. The long filter life is the money story: a 3 year filter means one change every 3 years in a clean city. Ask the seller for the price of the FY2200/30 replacement before you buy. Ask the dealer for it, divide by 36 months, and compare with the Honeywell V5’s Rs 2,500 a year. In heavy pollution the filter will clog sooner, which changes the maths.

Living with the Philips AC2220: sleep mode, app and design

The numbers in the spec sheet are the reason to buy. Thirteen decibels is close to silence, and 45 dB at the top is still gentle for a unit that moves 420 m3/h. The Air+ app handles scheduling and remote control, and it works with Alexa and Google Home voice control. The body is tall and slim at 48.6 by 28 by 28 cm, so it fits in a corner without dominating. The air quality light is soft at night. The finish looks more upmarket than the Qubo or Honeywell. What you pay for is the silence and the brand, and the fan is not fast.

Philips AC2220/60 warranty, service and what to check

Philips gives a 2 year warranty on this model. Service is the reason to buy a Philips: the brand has a wide service network across India and spare filters are easy to find, though the replacement price is worth checking before you buy. There is no installation. Remove the filter packaging, plug in and pair the app with a 2.4 GHz network. Check the model on the carton, because Philips sells the AC2220 with several suffixes and the price differs with regional versions. Keep the invoice, note the date of the first filter change and photograph the serial number. If you plan to buy spare filters in advance, buy only from Philips channels, because a fake HEPA filter looks identical in the box and cleans far worse. Ask the seller for the exact filter code, FY2200/30, so you can match it later.

Who should buy the Philips AC2220 and who should skip it

The shortfalls are a high price for the CADR, a replacement filter price to confirm and a filter life that falls in heavy pollution. Against the Coway Airmega 150 it is quieter, has an app and covers more room, but costs more. Against the Philips AC3220/60 it is cheaper and quieter, but moves less air. The Honeywell Air Touch V5 is far cheaper to run. Buy the AC2220 if you sleep lightly, have allergies or want few filter changes from a brand with service behind it. Skip it if you want the highest airflow for the money, if you want cheap filters, or if you live in a very polluted area where the filter will not last three years.

Philips AC3220/60 air purifier: the highest CADR, the dearest filter

The Philips AC3220/60 is the big machine in this guide. It has a CADR of 520 m3/h, a dual fan design, sensors for PM2.5, temperature and humidity, and a numeric AQI ring on the front. The coverage is given as up to 62 square metres, about 667 sq ft, though the title says 600 sq ft. It uses the FY3200/30 filter with 99.97 percent filtration at 0.003 micron, with a recommended change every year. Noise runs from 15 dB to 47.5 dB, power is 36 W, and it weighs about 6.2 kg and measures 52 by 28.5 by 28.5 cm. The warranty is 2 years.

My take: this is the purifier for a big living room or an open plan flat of 300 to 400 sq ft, or a Delhi NCR home in peak season. A CADR of 520 in a 350 sq ft room is about 6 air changes an hour on paper, which is serious. The live AQI number is useful for deciding when to open the windows. In a small bedroom it is too much, and you pay for airflow you will not use. I would run it on auto and let the sensors work, and put it where air can reach it from all sides.

Philips AC3220/60 running cost and the filter bill

Here is the cost. The card in this guide puts the filter at about Rs 5,089, and Philips recommends a change every year. Electricity at 36 W for 8 hours a day is about 105 units a year, or Rs 840 at Rs 8 a unit. So the yearly cost is roughly Rs 5,900, against about Rs 3,300 for the Honeywell V5. If you run it 24 hours a day in a polluted city, the filter will not last a year. Over five years the Philips filter bill is around Rs 25,000, so decide if the airflow is worth that.

Living with the Philips AC3220/60: display, app and noise

The numeric AQI ring is the feature you will use most, and it glows a colour that tells the story from across a room. The sensors for PM2.5, temperature and humidity feed the auto mode, and the app adds remote control. Noise is 15 dB at the lowest and 47.5 dB at the top, which is very quiet for a CADR of 520. The dual fan design uses two fans to move that much air. The unit weighs about 6.2 kg, so it is not a casual carry. The remote control is in the box. One spec page says voice control is not supported, so do not rely on Alexa without checking.

Philips AC3220/60 warranty, service and delivery check

The warranty is 2 years. Philips has a wide service network and easy access to genuine filters, and that matters when the filter costs this much. Counterfeit filters exist, so buy from Philips channels. There is no installation. Unbox, remove the filter wrapping, place the unit with 30 cm of clearance and plug it in. Check that the box reads AC3220/60 and the filter inside is FY3200/30, because the AC3220/10 and AC3221 are different models. Keep the invoice, set a calendar reminder for the first filter change and photograph the serial number. Because the filter is the big recurring cost, ask about the yearly filter price at purchase and keep a note of the date, so you are not surprised when the indicator turns red in the middle of the pollution season.

Who should buy the Philips AC3220/60 and who should skip it

The shortfalls are the price of the machine, the price of the filter and the fact that it is too much for a small room. Against the Philips AC2220 it moves more air and shows AQI, but it costs more to buy and run. Against the Qubo Q600 it has better brand support and a quieter motor, but it costs far more to keep running. The Cuckoo Respure is the cheaper large room option with a long motor warranty. Buy the AC3220/60 if you have a big room, live in a high pollution city and want brand support. Skip it if you are on a tight budget or have a small bedroom.

Coway Airmega 50 air purifier: the small room, quiet night option

The Coway Airmega 50 (AP-0425C in India) is the smallest purifier in this guide. It has a 3 in 1 filter system with a vacuumable pre filter, a HyperCaptive HEPA filter and a deodorisation filter, a particle sensor with a colour coded air quality light, and an auto mode. The CADR is about 66.7 CFM, which is about 113 m3/h, a little lower than the 120 printed on the card. It draws a maximum of 14 W and 11.5 W at the top speed, weighs about 1.6 kg and has a filter life of about 8 months. Coway quotes a sleep mode of 18.4 dB for the Indian model.

My take: this is a purifier for a very small room, a baby’s room, a study or a corner desk of up to about 100 sq ft. A 113 CADR in a 100 sq ft room gives about 5 air changes an hour on paper, which is fine. In a test it cut PM2.5 in a 120 sq ft room by about 92 percent in an hour at top speed. It is not a machine for a hall, a kitchen or a bad smoke day, and the card in this guide is right to say so. Put it on a table or the floor within reach of fresh air.

Coway Airmega 50 running cost and filter changes

Electricity is almost nothing. At 11.5 W on the top speed, 8 hours a day is about 34 units a year, or Rs 270 at Rs 8 a unit, and on lower speeds it is a few rupees. The filter is the cost: the maker rates it for about 8 months, so you will change it one to one and a half times a year depending on use. No replacement price is printed for India, so ask for it. The test sources call the filter dearer than many rivals, so the filter bill, not the power bill, is what you are really buying into with this purifier.

Living with the Coway Airmega 50: sleep mode, sensor and odour

The sleep mode drops to the lowest speed and dims the lights, and in a test the noise was about 40 dBA in sleep and about 57 dBA at the top speed, measured at 3 feet, while the Indian spec claims 18.4 dB, so the real figure sits between. There is no app, no Wi Fi and no voice control. The auto mode reads the particle sensor and sets the speed. Odour removal is the weak spot, since the deodorisation filter is a basic carbon coated type, so it will not clear cooking smells. The sensor is also hard to reach for cleaning, so wipe it when you change the filter.

Coway Airmega 50 AP-0425C warranty, service and delivery check

The card in this guide says 5 years on the motor, and a US page gives 1 year plus a 3 year limited motor warranty, so the terms differ by market and you should read the Indian card. Read it on delivery and ask for the motor and whole unit cover separately. Coway has a service network in the big cities, and its filters are sold online. There is no installation: remove the filter bag, place it and plug it in. Check the model code AP-0425C on the carton, keep the invoice and use genuine filters, because a cheap filter can void the cover and weaken the cleaning.

Who should buy the Coway Airmega 50 and who should skip it

The shortfalls are a low CADR for the price, small room only, weak odour control and no app. Against the Xiaomi Mijia 4 Compact you pay about the same for nearly half the airflow and no app, but you get the quieter reputation and the longer motor cover. Against the Coway Airmega 150 it is smaller and cheaper, but the 150 cleans a bigger room. The Philips AC2220 is a better quiet choice for a bigger bedroom. Buy the Airmega 50 for a small bedroom or nursery where noise matters most and you are happy to pay for a filter once or twice a year. Skip it for anything bigger than 100 sq ft, for kitchens or for smoke, and look at the Airmega 150 instead.

The buying guide

How to choose an air purifier: the 3 things that matter

1 · CADR: how fast it cleans

CADR is the volume of clean air a purifier makes in an hour, in m³/h. Two purifiers can both use a HEPA filter, but the one with the higher CADR clears the same room sooner. In the clip below, the same room is cleaned by a CADR 130 machine and a CADR 450 machine for the same time.

Indian brands usually quote CADR in m³/h. Some sites mislabel it as CFM, so check the unit before you compare.

2 · Room size: match CADR to your room

Use this rule: room size in sq ft × 1.25 = the CADR you need. A 120 sq ft bedroom needs about 150 m³/h. A 250 sq ft hall needs about 310 m³/h. A 400 sq ft hall needs about 500 m³/h.

Why 1.25? It gives about 4 to 5 air changes an hour, which is what you want in the Oct to Nov smog season. Many boxes say “covers 400+ sq ft”, but that figure often assumes just 2 air changes an hour. In practice, treat the coverage as half.

3 · Filter cost: look at the 3-year total

The purifier price is only half the cost. Use this formula: 3-year cost = purifier price + filter price × (36 months ÷ filter life in months).

As an illustration, a ₹8,000 purifier with a ₹3,000 HEPA filter every year and a ₹1,200 carbon filter every six months comes to about ₹20,000 over three years, as in the clip below. The numbers are an example, and every model is different.

Check three things before you buy: the filter price, the filter life in hours or months, and whether the replacement is easy to buy online or from the brand.

4 · HEPA and carbon filters

A True HEPA H13 filter catches fine particles such as PM2.5, pollen and dust. An activated carbon layer handles odours and some gases. A purifier with only a thin carbon layer will not do much for cooking smells or smoke.

A pre-filter catches hair and big dust and protects the HEPA filter. Most pre-filters can be washed, which makes your main filter last longer.

5 · Noise and sleep mode

For a bedroom, look at the sleep-mode noise. The Philips AC2220 (13 dB) and the Coway Airmega 50 (18.4 dB) are the quietest here. The Xiaomi 4 Compact lists 20 dB. A high CADR also means a louder fan at the top speed, so do not judge noise at one speed only.

6 · Smart features: do you need them?

An app gives you auto mode, scheduling and filter reminders, and some models show outdoor AQI. It is a convenience, not a necessity. The Coway Airmega 150 has no app and is one of the best-reviewed purifiers in India.

7 · How to use it in Delhi-NCR smog season

Close doors and windows, run the purifier on auto, and keep it a foot or two away from walls. Wash the pre-filter regularly. If your AQI is above 300 for weeks, change the filter earlier than the brand’s figure.

Skipped questions

Questions other air purifier guides skip

1 · Should I run an air purifier all day?

For the best result, yes, on auto or a low speed. Most use about 30 to 70 W at normal speeds, which is roughly 30 units a month if it runs all day at 40 W. Keep the windows and doors shut while it runs. Use a higher speed when the outside air is bad or when you cook.

2 · Where should I place it in the room?

Not in a corner or behind furniture. Leave a gap on all sides so the air can flow in and out, and put it near where you sit or sleep. Keep the door shut. A purifier that is boxed in cleans the room much more slowly.

3 · Does an air purifier remove cooking smoke and smells?

It removes the fine smoke particles, which is useful, but a HEPA filter does not remove gases and odours. A carbon layer helps a little, but only a large carbon filter handles smells well. For cooking fumes, use the chimney and keep the purifier for the particles.

4 · Should I worry about ozone or ionisers?

Yes, a little. Some ionisers and ozone generators release ozone, which irritates the lungs. I would pick a purifier that relies on a HEPA filter and fan, and switch off any ioniser mode that you do not need.

5 · Can one purifier clean my whole flat?

It cleans the room it sits in, with the door shut. In a flat, you need a machine for each room you care about. In an open hall that joins the kitchen, a purifier with a CADR sized for the full area can treat the whole space, but it will take longer.

6 · How do I know when to change the filter?

Most models show an indicator, and the hours on the box are a best case. In a city with heavy winter smog, the filter wears faster. Vacuum or wash the pre-filter every few weeks if the maker allows, and replace the HEPA when the indicator asks, using a genuine filter.

7 · Can I wash the HEPA filter?

No. Washing damages a HEPA filter and lets particles through. Only the washable pre-filter, where the model has one, can be cleaned. Treat the main filter as a part you replace.

8 · Will a high CADR purifier be too loud at night?

On the top speed, yes, it can be. A high CADR means a stronger fan. Look at the sleep mode figure, since the Philips AC2220 lists 13 dB and the Xiaomi 20 dB. A bigger purifier on a low speed is often quieter than a small one pushed hard.

9 · Does it help with allergies or asthma?

It can reduce dust, pollen and fine particles in the room, which may help. It is not a treatment. Keep the room clean, wash bedding often and talk to your doctor about your symptoms.

Popular air purifiers we did not rank

Honeywell Air Touch V1 (₹4,999). Very popular (about 11,900 ratings, 4.0★), but its CADR is 152 m³/h. That is about 120 sq ft of safe room size, not the 235 sq ft on the box. A fine study-room purifier, not a bedroom or hall one.

Honeywell Air Touch P2 (about ₹19,500). A large-room model with a CADR of 550 m³/h and a 9,000 hour filter. We did not rank it because we found less independent data than for the Philips AC3220.

Dyson Hushjet Compact HJ10 (₹29,900). It uses an electrostatic filter instead of HEPA and costs 2 to 3 times more than the picks here, so it does not win on value.

Eureka Forbes Air Purifier 150 (about ₹4,999). A budget bedroom model with 3.9★ from about 520 ratings. Eureka lists 200 sq ft, so apply our rule and keep it to a small room.

Air purifier brands in India: who is good at what

Qubo (Hero Group). High CADR for the money, app control and cheap filters. The best value.

Cuckoo. A Korean brand with a long 8-year motor warranty and generous box contents.

Coway. Quiet, simple and trusted, with a long filter life and good owner ratings.

Xiaomi. The cheapest way into smart purifiers. Good for small rooms.

Honeywell. The most searched brand in India, with cheap filters and wide availability.

Philips. The quietest and most expensive, with strong brand support.

Air purifier FAQs

Which is the best air purifier in India?

For most Indian homes, the Qubo Q400 (₹8,986) for a bedroom and the Qubo Q600 (₹14,990) for a hall give the best mix of CADR, price and cheap filters. For a large room with a long warranty, the Cuckoo Respure (₹12,990) is the pick. For a quiet, no-fuss machine, it is the Coway Airmega 150 (₹14,999).

Which air purifier is best for Delhi NCR pollution?

Pick on CADR first. For a room up to about 400 sq ft, the Qubo Q600 (450 m³/h), Cuckoo Respure (408 m³/h) and Philips AC3220 (520 m³/h) have the most headroom. In October and November, run the unit on auto, keep doors and windows shut, and expect to change the filter earlier than the brand says.

How do I calculate the right air purifier size for my room?

Multiply your room area in sq ft by 1.25 to get the CADR you need in m³/h. A 120 sq ft bedroom needs about 150 m³/h, a 250 sq ft hall needs about 310 m³/h, and a 400 sq ft hall needs about 500 m³/h. This gives about 4 to 5 air changes an hour, which is what you want in Oct to Nov. Brand “sq ft” claims often assume just 2 air changes an hour.

What is CADR in an air purifier?

CADR (Clean Air Delivery Rate) is how much clean air a purifier produces in an hour, in m³/h. A higher CADR cleans the same room faster. HEPA tells you how fine a particle the filter catches, and CADR tells you how fast the machine works. You need both.

How much does air purifier filter replacement cost in India?

Among the purifiers on this list, one replacement filter costs roughly ₹2,500 (Honeywell V5), ₹2,400 (Qubo, approx.), ₹2,990 (Cuckoo), ₹4,699 (Coway 150) and about ₹5,089 (Philips AC3220). The yearly cost depends on how long the filter lasts, so work out the 3-year total before you buy.

How often should I change an air purifier filter?

Most brands rate a HEPA filter for about 6 to 12 months, or around 9,000 running hours. Running 24×7, 9,000 hours is about a year. In heavy pollution, change it earlier. Pre-filters can usually be washed.

What is the best air purifier for a bedroom?

The Qubo Q400 for a bedroom up to about 260 sq ft. If you are a very light sleeper, the Philips AC2220 (13 dB) or the Coway Airmega 50 (18.4 dB) are quieter. For a small room on a budget, the Xiaomi Mijia 4 Compact (₹6,990) is the best value.

What is the best air purifier under ₹10,000?

The Qubo Q400 at ₹8,986 has the highest CADR (330 m³/h) under ₹10,000 on this list. The Xiaomi Mijia 4 Compact (₹6,990) and Coway Airmega 50 (₹6,999) are better for small rooms.

Is the Xiaomi Mijia 4 Compact enough for a 400 sq ft room?

No. The “400+ sq ft” on the box assumes about 2 air changes an hour. With a CADR of 230 m³/h, a safe room size is about 180 sq ft. HouseFresh also rated the global model for about 175 sq ft at 5 air changes an hour.

Do I need a smart air purifier with an app?

No. The app is a convenience for auto mode, scheduling and filter reminders. The Coway Airmega 150 has no app and is still one of the best-reviewed models in India. Spend your money on CADR first.

Is HEPA H13 enough, or should I look for H14?

H13 HEPA catches 99.95% of particles at 0.3 µm and is what the models on this list use. Many Indian brands claim “99.99%”, so look at how the figure is measured. More important than the label is CADR, a sealed filter and genuine replacement filters.

Why are the Honeywell Air Touch V1 and Dyson Hushjet not ranked?

The Honeywell V1 (₹4,999) is popular, but its CADR is only 152 m³/h, which is about 120 sq ft of safe room size, not the 235 sq ft the brand claims. The Dyson Hushjet Compact HJ10 costs ₹29,900 and uses an electrostatic filter, so it costs two to three times more than the picks here. Both are fine in the right room, but they do not win on value.

So, which air purifier should you buy?

Best overall: Qubo Q400 / Q600. Check price

Best for large rooms: Cuckoo Respure. Check price

Best low-maintenance: Coway Airmega 150. Check price

Best budget: Xiaomi Mijia 4 Compact. Check price

Measure your room, multiply by 1.25 and pick the cheapest purifier whose CADR clears that number. Then check the filter price. That order saves you the most money.
