Godrej AC Review 2026

I bought a new Godrej AC this summer to put the brand through a real-world test. After using it daily for over a month in Ahmedabad — where temperatures sit around 45°C and my apartment is on the top floor with direct sunlight — I have a clear picture of how Godrej performs in the worst conditions Indian summers can offer.

This review covers the complete Godrej AC range for 2026. The 1 Ton models for small bedrooms, the 1.5 Ton sweet spot that most Indian families buy, and the 2 Ton for large halls. Both 3 Star and 5 Star variants, across 2025 and 2026 model years. Whether you are buying your first AC or replacing an old one, this is everything you need to know before picking a Godrej.

Godrej AC Review 2026

Why Godrej over Daikin, Panasonic, or Carrier?

I have reviewed and personally used ACs from Daikin, Mitsubishi, and Panasonic. They remain my top picks for raw cooling performance. But they are expensive — and getting more expensive each year.

I needed an AC that would not compromise on copper quality or build, would offer real after-sales support, and would sit comfortably under ₹30,000. After comparing Lloyd, Voltas, Cruise, MarQ, and Hisense, I landed on Godrej. Three things pushed me toward this brand before I even unboxed the unit.

Godrej AC Review 2026

First, the 5-year comprehensive warranty. Second, full copper construction across the evaporator, condenser, and connecting tubes. Third, Godrej’s service network in India — built over decades, not stitched together by a startup.

After a month of daily use, I found five reasons that confirmed my decision. I also found one reason that might make you reconsider. More on that later.

The 5-year warranty changes the math

Most AC brands in India offer 1 year of product warranty and 10 years on the compressor. Sounds generous until you actually need service. After that first year, gas refilling costs ₹2,500 to ₹3,000. A technician visit runs ₹500 to ₹800. If your remote stops working, that is another ₹300 to ₹500. Over five years, you can easily spend ₹6,000 to ₹8,000 on maintenance alone.

Godrej covers all of it for five years. Gas charging, technician visits, PCB repair, even remote replacement — free for five full years. On top of that, you get 10 years of compressor warranty. No other brand in this price range offers anything close.

There is a catch, though. You must get the AC installed by a Godrej-authorized technician, and you need to register the product on Godrej’s website within 30 days of purchase. Skip either step and the warranty may not apply.

Build quality: copper, Blue Fin, and what is inside

The Godrej AC uses 100% copper for its evaporator, condenser, and connecting tubes. This matters more than most buyers realize.

Many brands label their ACs as having a “copper condenser” while using aluminium coils welded onto copper tubes. When two different metals sit together over time, galvanic corrosion kicks in. The coils degrade, and repairs become expensive — often requiring a full coil replacement at ₹5,000 to ₹8,000. With a full copper system, a leak can be fixed with a simple weld at the exact point of damage.

Godrej AC outdoor unit

Both the indoor and outdoor units feature Blue Fin anti-corrosion coating. When I opened the indoor panel, I noticed a dark coating on the evaporator coils — that is the hydrophilic Blue Fin layer, which prevents moisture buildup and protects against salt, acid, and pollution damage. For buyers in coastal cities like Mumbai, Chennai, or Goa, this coating adds years to the unit’s life. But even in dusty, polluted cities like Delhi or Ahmedabad, it makes a difference.

The outdoor condenser also has nano coating on the hairpin bends — the spots where corrosion typically starts first.

Some buyers ask about Blue Fin versus Gold Fin. Gold Fin offers slightly better heat transfer and faster defrosting, but it appears only in premium models priced above ₹40,000. At Godrej’s price point, Blue Fin is the best protection available.

What actually separates 3 Star from 5 Star ACs

Most people think the gap between a 3 Star and 5 Star AC is just about electricity savings. That is only part of the story. The hardware itself is different.

Compressor design. A 3 Star AC typically uses a single rotary compressor — one cylinder doing all the compression work. A 5 Star model often uses a twin rotary (or dual rotary) compressor, where two cylinders operate at a 180-degree phase difference. The result: lower vibration, quieter operation, and a wider RPM range (roughly 700 to 8,000 RPM versus a narrower band in single rotary units). That wider range means better variable tonnage control and more precise temperature management.

Condenser coil design. This one surprised me. When you look at the outdoor unit’s condenser from the side, a 3 Star AC typically has a single row of copper tubes running through the fins. A 5 Star model often has a double row — nearly twice the surface area for heat exchange. More surface area means the refrigerant cools down faster, the compressor works less, and electricity consumption drops. It also helps in extreme heat, where a single row condenser can struggle.

So when someone says “5 Star is just a sticker upgrade,” they are wrong. The compressor is different. The condenser is different. The physical engineering is different.

Cooling performance: real numbers from a real room

I tested the Godrej 1.5 Ton 3 Star in my 150 sq ft room in Ahmedabad — last floor of the building, one side entirely glass windows with direct sunlight for half the day. If there is a stress test for an AC, this is it.

With the temperature outside at 43 to 44°C, I set the AC to 24°C in Turbo mode. Within 10 minutes, the room dropped to 30°C. By the 20-minute mark, it settled at 24 to 25°C. For a ₹26,000 to ₹30,000 AC, that is strong performance.

The 5-in-1 convertible mode works well in practice. I run it at 80% most of the time, which balances cooling and power consumption. At night, 40 to 60% is enough. On peak afternoons, 100 to 110% handles the load without issues.

Godrej AC review

A note on rated capacity. The spec label on this unit shows a rated cooling capacity of 4,850 watts, with a max of 5,150 watts at 110% mode. True 1.5 Ton cooling should be 5,275 watts (18,000 BTU). So the actual cooling output is roughly 1.38 tons — not the full 1.5 tons advertised.

This gap is not unique to Godrej. Across the industry, “1.5 Ton” ACs deliver anywhere from 4,400 watts to 5,400 watts. Some budget brands go as low as 4,400 watts — effectively 1.25 tons. On the other end, the Carrier Indus model pushes 5,850 watts from a “1.5 Ton” unit — that is 1.66 tons of actual cooling. But the Carrier is not a budget AC.

Some budget brands1.5 Ton4,400W~1.25 Ton
Godrej 1.5T 3 Star (tested)1.5 Ton4,850W~1.38 Ton

Voltas 1.5T 3 Star1.5 Ton5,400W~1.53 Ton
Carrier Indus 1.5T 3 Star1.5 Ton5,850W~1.66 Ton

For rooms up to 160 sq ft with average insulation, the Godrej’s 4,850 watts is perfectly adequate. My extreme-condition test proved that. For rooms larger than 180 sq ft with heavy sunlight exposure, you may want to look at a 2 Ton model or a brand with higher rated capacity.

Power consumption. At 6 to 7 hours of daily use, I averaged 5 to 7 units per day. Monthly, that comes to 150 to 200 units. At ₹7 to ₹8 per unit, expect an AC bill of ₹1,000 to ₹1,600 per month. A 5 Star model would bring this down by roughly 20 to 25%, but the AC itself costs ₹5,000 to ₹8,000 more upfront.

Which size for which room? The 1 Ton models suit bedrooms under 120 sq ft with limited sunlight. The 1.5 Ton fits the average Indian bedroom or medium living room (120 to 170 sq ft). The 2 Ton handles large halls and drawing rooms above 180 sq ft.

If you are deciding between 1 Ton and 1.5 Ton, go with 1.5. The inverter compressor adjusts its output to match the room’s needs, so it will not waste power in a smaller space. An undersized AC, on the other hand, will run continuously at full load, consuming more electricity while delivering less comfort.

BEE 2026 star rating changes and ISEER

Starting January 1, 2026, the Bureau of Energy Efficiency raised the ISEER thresholds by 10 to 14%. In practice, an AC that was 5 Star in 2025 now qualifies as 4 Star under the new norms. A 2025 3 Star drops to 2 Star territory.

This does not mean the AC suddenly got worse. The cooling output, power consumption, and hardware are identical. Only the rating standard changed.

The ISEER number on the BEE label tells you more than the star count. It measures how many units of cooling you get per unit of electricity consumed. My Godrej shows an ISEER of 3.82 — a solid 3 Star by 2025 standards, but technically 2 Star under 2026 norms. The 2026 5 Star model from Godrej has an ISEER of 5.65 — genuinely high efficiency.

Practical buying advice: If a 2025 model is available at a discount, the machine is identical to what it was before the rating change. Compare ISEER numbers directly rather than star counts when shopping across model years. Also check the “Annual Energy Consumption” figure on the BEE label — it shows estimated yearly electricity use in kilowatt-hours, which translates directly to your bill.

Features that matter

The Godrej AC comes with 5-in-1 convertible cooling (40% to 110% capacity adjustment), horizontal and vertical air swing for uniform cooling, anti-viral nano-coated filters, and an active carbon filter for odor control. Timer, sleep mode, and auto restart after power cuts are standard.

The feature I like most is i-Sense, though it is only available on the 5 Star models. The remote control has a built-in temperature sensor that reads the temperature where you are sitting — not where the AC is mounted. This makes cooling more accurate and comfortable, especially in larger rooms where the AC is far from the seating area.

Installation cost: what I actually paid

The Godrej-authorized installation charge is ₹1,525 plus GST, which comes to roughly ₹1,800. That covers basic installation only. On top of that, I paid for extra copper piping (₹400 to ₹600 per foot), a drain pipe (₹100 to ₹200), electrical wiring (₹200 to ₹400), and an outdoor wall bracket (₹300 to ₹800).

My total installation cost came to roughly ₹3,000 to ₹3,500. All in — AC plus installation — the final number was approximately ₹30,000.

Always use a Godrej-authorized technician. Unauthorized installation can void your 5-year warranty. Ask upfront about copper pipe length and bracket requirements so the final bill does not catch you off guard.

Godrej AC Review 2026

After-sales service experience

Godrej’s warranty structure is excellent, but execution depends on your city. I am in Ahmedabad, and the installation went smoothly — technicians arrived on time and did clean work.

To test after-sales responsiveness, I registered a complaint after 15 days. A technician showed up within 3 days. It got the job done, but I think Godrej can improve here. A 24 to 48 hour response would bring it in line with what premium brands like Daikin offer in metro cities. In smaller towns, response times may vary further.

Honest limitations: six things to consider

No product is perfect, and hiding the flaws makes a review useless. Here is what I think Godrej needs to fix.

The budget 3 Star model does not include Wi-Fi connectivity. In 2026, smart features should be standard, not a premium-only add-on. If you want app-based control, you will need to step up to a 5 Star smart model at ₹35,000 or more.

The outdoor unit produces noticeable noise when the compressor runs at peak speed. The indoor unit is quiet — no issues during sleep. But if the outdoor unit sits right next to a bedroom window, you will hear it. This is partly a result of the single rotary compressor, which creates more vibration than a twin rotary setup.

The indoor unit’s plastic does not feel premium. It works fine and the cooling is solid, but the tactile quality of the housing does not match what LG or Samsung offer at similar prices. Cosmetic, not functional — but it matters when you are spending ₹30,000.

After-sales service, while decent in major cities, is inconsistent in smaller towns. Godrej’s warranty promise is strong, but the delivery network has gaps.

The 2026 BEE rating change means your 3 Star model is technically a 2 Star under new norms. The AC itself has not changed, but it is worth knowing when comparing labels across different model years.

If your area has frequent low voltage (below 150V), invest in a stabilizer. Budget ₹1,500 to ₹2,500 for a decent one.

Who should buy Godrej in 2026

The Godrej AC range makes the most sense if your budget sits between ₹25,000 and ₹40,000 and you want the longest worry-free ownership in that price bracket. The 5-year warranty alone saves you thousands compared to brands that charge for every service call after year one.

For rooms up to 160 sq ft, the 1.5 Ton 3 Star handles Indian summers without breaking a sweat — I tested it in conditions most buyers will never encounter. For smaller bedrooms, the 1 Ton 3 Star is enough. For large halls, the 2 Ton takes care of it.

If your budget allows, I strongly recommend the 5 Star variant. The hardware difference — twin rotary compressor, double row condenser — is real, not marketing. You will get quieter operation, better efficiency, and longer component life. The 2025 5 Star model on discount is the smartest buy right now: same machine as the 2026 model, just a different label.

If you need absolute silence, the most refined build quality, or the highest raw cooling capacity, look at Daikin, Panasonic, or Carrier. They cost more, but they deliver more in those specific areas.

Geekman verdict: 8 out of 10. Best value for money AC in India for 2026.

Worth to Buy Godrej AC ?

The Godrej AC lineup in 2026 offers something rare in the budget segment — a combination of 5-year comprehensive warranty, full copper construction, and decent cooling performance that no other brand at this price can match. I tested the 1.5 Ton 5 Star for over a month in some of the harshest conditions an Indian summer can throw at you, and it held up.

It is not perfect. The rated capacity falls short of true 1.5 Ton, the outdoor unit gets loud at peak load, and the plastic housing does not feel premium. But at ₹26,000 to ₹30,000, these trade-offs are reasonable. Every AC in this price range makes similar compromises.

If I had to pick one model from the entire range, it would be the 1.5 Ton 5 Star 2025 variant on discount. You get genuinely better hardware — twin rotary compressor, double row condenser — along with the same 5-year warranty. That is the smart buy.

For everyone else on a tight budget, the 3 Star model does the job. Buy it, register it within 30 days, and enjoy five years of zero maintenance costs.

Frequently asked questions

es. After one month of testing in Ahmedabad’s 45°C heat, the cooling performance held up well for rooms up to 160 sq ft. The 5-year comprehensive warranty is the strongest in this price segment. Build quality with full copper and Blue Fin coating means the unit is designed for Indian conditions — dust, humidity, coastal salt, and power fluctuations.

For bedrooms under 120 sq ft with limited sunlight, 1 Ton is enough. For the average Indian bedroom or medium living room (120 to 170 sq ft), go with 1.5 Ton. If you are confused between the two, pick 1.5 Ton. The inverter compressor adjusts output automatically, so it will not waste power in a smaller room. An undersized AC running at full load all day will cost you more.

Godrej wins on warranty (5 years comprehensive vs 1 year product) and copper quality (full copper vs mixed in some Voltas models). Voltas offers higher cooling capacity in some 1.5 Ton models (5,400W vs Godrej’s 4,850W) and a wider stabilizer-free voltage range (110 to 285V). For long-term ownership cost, Godrej is the better deal. For raw cooling power, check Voltas specs carefully.

Daikin delivers better cooling performance, quieter operation, and higher build quality. But the entry-level Daikin 1.5 Ton starts above ₹36,000. Godrej gives you 80% of the experience at 60% of the price, plus a warranty that covers five times more than Daikin’s. If your budget is under ₹30,000, Godrej wins. Above ₹35,000, consider Daikin.

ISEER stands for Indian Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio. It tells you how many units of cooling the AC produces per unit of electricity consumed. Higher ISEER means lower electricity bills. My Godrej 1.5T 3 Star has an ISEER of 3.82. The 2026 5 Star model has an ISEER of 5.65. When comparing ACs, check the ISEER number rather than just the star count — especially now that 2026 BEE norms have shifted the thresholds.

The Bureau of Energy Efficiency raised the ISEER thresholds by 10 to 14% starting January 1, 2026. A 2025 5 Star AC (ISEER ~5.1) now falls into 4 Star territory. A 2025 3 Star (ISEER ~3.8) drops to 2 Star. The AC itself has not changed — same machine, same cooling, same power consumption. Only the rating standard is stricter.

Basic authorized installation is ₹1,525 plus GST (roughly ₹1,800). Add extra copper piping, drain pipe, wiring, and outdoor bracket — total comes to ₹3,000 to ₹3,500. Always use Godrej-authorized technicians to keep your 5-year warranty valid.

t is not just about electricity savings. A 3 Star AC uses a single rotary compressor and a single row condenser coil. A 5 Star model uses a twin rotary compressor (two cylinders at 180° phase, less vibration, quieter) and a double row condenser (nearly twice the heat exchange surface area). The physical hardware is different, which is why 5 Star models are quieter, more efficient, and perform better in extreme heat.
