Short answer: for most homes, buy the Prestige PIRC 1.0. If you want a grill in the box and more power steps for less money, pick the Bajaj IRX 220F. If you want the most Indian-cooking presets, choose the Borosil Smart Kook. And if the budget is tight, the Pigeon Infrared Cook & Grill gives a two year warranty for little.

Geekman has covered consumer tech for over 10 years, and this ranking is built the way our buying guides always are: research first, then a hard look at the numbers. For every model we compared official specs, presets, safety features, price, running cost, warranty and service reach, and checked live prices on Amazon and Flipkart. One thing to know before you buy: infrared cooktops sold in India are radiant cooktops, not induction, and that changes the running cost and how hot the glass stays.

The ranking

How these infrared cooktops were ranked

Each cooktop gets a score out of 10 for performance (40%), value (40%) and service (20%). Performance covers power, presets, controls and safety. Value looks at what you pay against what you get. Service looks at warranty and how easy it is to get help.

Pros and cons

What we like
+ 2200W with BIS certification
+ Touch plus knob controls
+ Prestige service reach

What we don’t like
– Costs more than the cheaper 2200W options
– Radiant heating is less efficient than induction

Full review

If you want an infrared cooktop and do not want to think too hard, the Prestige PIRC 1.0 is where I would start. It is a 2200W cooktop with a ceramic glass top, touch panel plus a control knob, a timer and four smart presets. It carries BIS certification, and it comes from a brand that most Indian towns have a service centre for.

Controls. You get both touch buttons and a knob. That sounds small, but it matters when your hands are wet or you want to drop the heat quickly. The four presets cover the common jobs, and there is a timer so you can walk away from rice or a simmering dal.

Heating. This is a radiant cooktop. Hot elements sit under the glass and heat the pan by direct contact and radiated heat, so it works with aluminium, steel, copper and glass utensils. The glass takes longer to cool than an induction top, so treat it as hot after you switch off.

Plug and power. At 2200W it draws about 9.6 amps at 230V, and the listing shows a 15 amp plug. Use a proper 15 or 16 amp socket and keep it off extension boards.

Warranty. One year, according to the Amazon listing. Check the card in the box for what is covered.

Prestige PIRC 1.0 vs the competition. The Bajaj IRX 220F costs a little less and gives you a grill, while the Borosil Smart Kook has far more presets. The Prestige wins on simple controls and brand service.

Best for
✓ Buyers who want a grill for tikka and kebabs
✓ Fine control over heat with eleven levels
✓ A light, easy-to-move cooktop

Not ideal for
– Anyone who wants a long list of presets
– People who want a knob-only panel

Verdict: A strong all-rounder at a friendlier price than the Prestige, with a grill in the box.

What we like
+ Grill and two skewers in the box
+ Eleven power levels
+ Light at about 2.1 kg

What we don’t like
– Only three presets
– Glass top needs careful handling

Full review

The Bajaj IRX 220F is the pick I like most for the money. It gives you 2200W, eleven power levels, three presets (fry, soup or simmer, and BBQ), touch plus knob controls and a digital LED display. A BBQ grill with two skewers comes in the box, which most rivals charge extra for.

Heating and control. Eleven power levels give you more steps than the usual five or six, which helps when you want a gentle simmer. Bajaj lists Voltage Pro, a feature meant to handle voltage swings. The three presets are basic but cover frying, simmering and grilling.

The grill. The grill and skewers let you make kebabs and tikka on the same cooktop. Cooking meat on a radiant glass top will smoke and spatter, so keep it clean and ventilate the kitchen.

Weight and build. It is listed at about 2.1 kg with a glass top, so it is easy to store. Treat the glass gently, because a hard knock from a heavy pan can crack it.

Warranty. One year on the listing. Bajaj has a wide service presence, but ask the seller where the nearest centre is.

Bajaj IRX 220F vs the competition. Against the Prestige PIRC 1.0 you get a grill and more power steps for less, but fewer smart presets. The Borosil Smart Kook has many more presets but costs more.

Borosil Smart Kook

✓ Cooks who like one-touch presets
✓ Idli, milk and curry made on the same unit
✓ A brand known for glassware and kitchenware

Verdict: The most Indian-cooking presets of the eight. Worth the extra if you will use them.

What we like
+ Longest preset list, built for Indian cooking
+ Cooling fan
+ Trusted kitchenware brand

What we don’t like
– Costs more than the Bajaj and Pigeon
– Fan adds noise

Full review

Borosil is a name Indian kitchens trust for glass, and the Smart Kook brings that to infrared. It has a touch display and more than eight presets, including deep fry, pressure cook, milk or tea, curry, boil, roti or dosa and idli. A cooling fan and crystal glass top round it off.

Presets. The list is the longest in this group, and it is built around how Indian homes cook. The milk and tea preset and the idli preset are the ones I would use most. Remember that on a radiant cooktop a preset mostly sets power and time.

Cooling fan. A fan helps cool the electronics under the glass. It adds some noise, but it is a good sign for long cooking sessions.

Build. The top is crystal glass, with a listed weight of about 2.3 kg. A grill rack image appears in the listing, so confirm what is in the box before you buy.

Warranty. One year on the Amazon listing. Borosil is widely sold, which helps when you need a replacement.

Borosil Smart Kook vs the competition. It has more presets than the Prestige PIRC 1.0 and Bajaj IRX 220F, and costs more than both. If you do not need the extra presets, the Bajaj is better value.

Pigeon Infrared Cook

Best for
✓ Budget buyers who still want a warranty of two years
✓ Tikka and kebab lovers
✓ A second cooktop for the kitchen

Not ideal for
– Anyone who wants 2200W
– People who want many presets

Verdict: The best-priced pick here, with a two year warranty and a grill. Slightly less power than the 2200W models.

– Heavier at about 2.8 kg

Full review

The Pigeon Infrared Cook and Grill is a 2000W cooktop with a crystal glass top, touch controls, auto shut-off and overheat protection. It comes with a tandoor-style grill, and Pigeon gives a two year warranty, which is better than the one year on most others.

Heating. At 2000W it is a step down from the 2200W cooktops. For a family kitchen, that means slightly slower boil times on big pots. It draws about 8.7 amps at 230V, so it still needs a proper 15 or 16 amp socket, not a 5 or 6 amp one.

Safety. Auto shut-off and overheat protection are both listed. With a hot glass top, those matter.

The grill. A tandoor-style grill is included. It is handy for kebabs and tikka, though the same smoke and cleaning caveats apply as on any radiant grill.

Warranty. Two years, according to the listing, which is the longest standard cover in this list apart from the Longway.

Pigeon Infrared Cook & Grill 2000W vs the competition. It is cheaper than the Prestige PIRC 1.0 and Bajaj IRX 220F, with a longer warranty, but less powerful. The Longway Infralite Pro costs about the same and gives 2200W.

The Longway Infralite Pro lists 2200W, four presets (stir fry, BBQ, hot pot and steam), a touch panel, auto shut-off and overheat protection, and a grill rack comes in the box. It is among the lowest priced of the 2200W cooktops.

What you get. The four presets are basic, set around power and time. The grill rack is a useful extra. It is listed at about 2.5 kg and runs on 230V.

Warranty and service. Two years limited domestic warranty on the listing. Longway is a smaller brand than Prestige or Bajaj, so check how you would get service in your city before buying.

Power. 2200W draws about 9.6 amps. Use a proper 15 or 16 amp socket.

Longway Infralite Pro vs the competition. It is cheaper than the Prestige PIRC 1.0 and Bajaj IRX 220F for the same wattage, but those two have stronger brands behind them.

The iBELL CROWN 22 has an LED display, a carry handle and BIS certification (IS 302-2-6:2009) on the listing. iBELL gives one year of warranty plus two more years if you register.

A wattage warning. The Amazon listing says 2200W, while the Flipkart title says 2000W. That is a real conflict, so look at the label on the box. Either way the cooktop is in the same class as the others here.

Build and features. It is listed at about 3 kg, the heaviest here, with a handle that makes it easy to shift around the kitchen.

Warranty. One year, with two more on registration. Register on day one so the extra cover applies.

iBELL CROWN 22 vs the competition. The Pigeon Infrared Cook and Grill has a plain two year warranty and a grill. The Longway costs about the same with a grill rack and a clear 2200W.

The Milton Classic 2200W has four presets (stir fry, BBQ, hot pot and steam), a digital timer and a control knob over a ceramic glass top. Milton lists a temperature range of 60 to 600°C, which is a manufacturer claim and not something I can confirm.

Controls. A control knob and a digital timer keep it simple. The presets are the same four you see on several rivals.

Build. It is listed at about 2.5 kg with a ceramic glass top.

Warranty. One year on the listing. Milton is a household name, so service and spares are usually easy to find.

Full review

Havells is known for electricals, and the Glo TC22 reflects that. It lists a 2200W copper coil, 6 kV surge protection, a stainless steel SS304 grill and sensor touch controls. It carries a one year door-step warranty.

Protection. The 6 kV surge protection is the headline feature. If your lights flicker or your area has voltage swings, that matters more than a longer preset list.

Power. 2200W draws about 9.6 amps at 230V, so use a proper 15 or 16 amp socket. Wattage details can differ between listings, so read the label on the box.

Warranty. One year with door-step service, which is a plus if you do not want to take a heavy appliance to a centre.

Havells Glo TC22 vs the competition. It costs more than the Bajaj IRX 220F and has fewer presets. Pick it for the protection and service, not the features.

The buying guide

How to choose an infrared cooktop in India

Short on time? Check four things: how it heats, the socket you have, the safety features and the warranty.

🔥

Heating

Radiant: any flat-bottom pan, but the glass stays hot.

🔌

Socket

2200W needs a proper 15 or 16 amp socket.

🛡️

Safety

Auto shut-off, overheat protection and BIS.

📄

Cover

Read what the warranty covers and for how long.

1 · What “infrared” actually means in India

The infrared cooktops sold here are radiant cooktops. A resistive heating element sits under a glass top and heats up, and the glass then heats the pan. It is not the same as induction, which heats the pan directly with a magnetic field. Because the heat comes from an element and the glass, it works with aluminium, steel, copper and glass pans, and it stays hot for a while after you switch off.

2 · Which utensils work

Almost any flat-bottom utensil works, including aluminium, steel, copper, glass and cast iron. That is the main reason people pick infrared over induction. A round-bottom kadhai will not sit well on glass, so use a flat base. Do not drag heavy pans across the top.

3 · Power, plug and socket

A 2200W cooktop draws about 9.6 amps at 230V, and 2000W draws about 8.7. A 5 or 6 amp socket cannot carry that. Use a proper 15 or 16 amp socket with good wiring, and do not run it through an extension board.

4 · Running cost

Radiant cooktops are less efficient than induction, roughly 70 to 80 percent against about 85 to 90 percent. They also keep heating a hot glass top. In practice that means higher bills for long cooking sessions. See the cost table below.

5 · The glass stays hot

The glass and the element hold heat for a while after switch-off. Treat the top as hot until the indicator goes off or it has cooled. Be extra careful with children and pets around.

6 · Presets: which ones matter

On a radiant cooktop, presets mostly set a power level and a time. Milk, idli and pressure-cook presets save attention. A long list is not worth paying much extra for.

7 · Safety features worth having

Look for auto shut-off, overheat protection, a hot-surface indicator and BIS certification. Surge protection helps in homes with voltage swings, like on the Havells Glo TC22.

8 · Warranty and service

Most carry one year. The Pigeon lists two years, the Longway two years limited, and iBELL adds two more years if you register. Bigger brands are easier to get serviced. Keep the invoice and register on day one.

How much power does an infrared cooktop use?

Heating 1 litre of water from 25°C to 100°C takes about 0.087 units (kWh) of heat. At roughly 70 to 80 percent efficiency, that is about 0.11 to 0.12 units from the wall, or around 80 paise at ₹7 a unit. Long cooking at medium power is what adds up.

Cooking time per dayUnits per monthAt ₹6 per unitAt ₹7 per unitAt ₹8 per unit
1 hour36₹216₹252₹288
2 hours72₹432₹504₹576
3 hours108₹648₹756₹864

This table assumes an average draw of about 1,200W while cooking, a bit higher than induction because of lower efficiency. Your real use will vary with the preset and pan. Check your tariff, since the rate per unit changes with slabs.

Other infrared cooktops we looked at

Usha IR2200TCB and IR2200TCW. A trusted brand. We kept the Havells for protection and the Prestige and Bajaj for service and value.

Hawkins infrared cooktop 2200W. A known kitchen brand, but priced above our picks for similar features.

Other Bajaj and Prestige variants. Several near-identical versions of the same cooktops are sold. We picked the version with the clearest listing.

Very cheap unbranded models. Not worth the risk with a hot glass top and a 9 amp draw.

Infrared cooktop FAQ

Which is the best infrared cooktop in India in 2026?

For most homes I would buy the Prestige PIRC 1.0. If you want a grill in the box and more power steps for less, pick the Bajaj IRX 220F. If you love presets, pick the Borosil Smart Kook.

Is an infrared cooktop the same as induction?

No. An induction cooktop heats the pan with a magnetic field, so it needs magnetic cookware. An infrared cooktop in India is a radiant cooktop. It heats an element under the glass, and that heats the pan, so it works with almost any flat-bottom utensil. Even Flipkart lists the Bajaj IRX 220F as a radiant cooktop.

Which utensils work on an infrared cooktop?

Almost any flat-bottom utensil: aluminium, steel, copper, glass and cast iron. Round-bottom kadhais do not sit well on the glass, so use a flat base.

Is an infrared cooktop more expensive to run than induction?

Usually yes. Induction turns about 85 to 90 percent of the electricity into heat in the pan, while radiant infrared is closer to 70 to 80 percent. Because it also keeps heating a hot glass, long cooking costs more. Our induction vs infrared guide has the numbers.

Does an infrared cooktop stay hot after switching off?

Yes. The glass and the element hold heat, so the surface can stay hot for a while after switch-off. Do not touch it, and keep children away until it has cooled.

Can I use a 2200W infrared cooktop on a normal socket?

No. A 2200W cooktop draws about 9.6 amps at 230V, which is too much for a 5 or 6 amp socket. Use a proper 15 or 16 amp socket and do not use an extension board.

How much electricity does an infrared cooktop use?

At full power, a 2200W cooktop uses about 2.2 units an hour. Cooking rarely stays at full power, so a typical home cooks at an average draw nearer 1,000 to 1,500W. Boiling a litre of water uses roughly 0.1 to 0.12 units.

Is it safe to cook on an infrared cooktop?

It is safe if you follow the basics: a proper socket, a flat pan, no empty heating and no touching the glass until it has cooled. Look for auto shut-off, overheat protection and BIS certification.

Why does an infrared cooktop make a clicking sound?

Many radiant cooktops switch the element on and off, or step the power down, to hold the set level. A soft click is normal. A loud buzz or a smell is not, so stop using it and contact the brand.

Are the presets useful?

A little. On a radiant cooktop, most presets set a power level and a time. A milk or idli preset saves attention, but a long list is not a reason to pay more.

Can an infrared cooktop crack the glass?

The glass can crack if a heavy pan is dropped on it, or if you heat an empty pan or slide a pan roughly over it. Treat the top gently.

What is the warranty on infrared cooktops?

Most carry one year. The Pigeon Infrared Cook and Grill lists two years, the Longway Infralite Pro lists two years limited, and iBELL adds two more years on registration. Always check the card in the box.

Induction or infrared: which should I buy?

If your utensils are induction-ready and you want lower running cost and faster heating, buy induction. If you want to use every pan you already own, buy infrared. Our Induction vs Infrared Cooktop guide explains who should pick which.

Can I use an infrared cooktop with a pacemaker?

Radiant cooktops do not create the strong magnetic field that induction does, but check with your doctor and the maker if you have an implanted device.
