Short answer: the LG 7 kg Smart Inverter (₹18,990) is the best washing machine here, with an inverter motor, 10 years of motor cover and the lowest power use of the 7 kg models. For 8 kg, the Samsung 8 kg (₹19,490) is the pick, and the Whirlpool 8 kg (₹17,990) is the cheapest 8 kg.
I built this ranking by comparing the numbers first. For every model we compared official specs, motor type, spin speed, capacity, energy rating, price, warranty and service reach, and checked live prices on Amazon and Flipkart.
Prices were seen on 26 October 2026. Bank offers and sale discounts often bring machines priced up to about ₹22,000 near the ₹20,000 mark, so the list runs from ₹17,990 to ₹19,490 at the listed price. Six are fully automatic top loaders and one is a front loader. If your budget is lower, see our guides for washing machines under 15000 and under 10000.

If none of these rows sounds like you, read on. A short guide to what matters comes first, then the ranking and the full reviews.
What matters
What to know before you buy a washing machine under 20000
Top load or front load
Top loaders are cheaper and let you add clothes mid wash. The one front loader here is the Godrej at ₹17,990.
Star rating
Every pick here is 5 star. The listings give 0.0083 to 0.0107 kWh per kg per cycle, and Samsung is the lowest.
Inverter motor
The LG and Samsung use inverter motors. They run quieter and use less power than the standard motors.
Spin speed
The top loaders spin at 700 to 750 rpm. The Godrej front loader spins at 670 rpm.
Warranty
Read product years and motor years separately. IFB gives 4 years on the product, the longest firm cover here.
Service
LG, Samsung and Whirlpool have the widest reach. Haier and Godrej come next, then IFB and Bosch.
The ranking
How I ranked these washing machines
Each product gets a score out of 10 for performance (40%), value (40%) and service (20%). The same rules apply to every product in every guide. Performance counts the energy rating most, then motor or compressor type, capacity and features. Value is price against the rest of the list plus warranty, and warranty is counted only here. Service is the brand’s service reach across India.

Warranty check
How long are you covered?
The motor is the part most likely to fail, so read the warranty line. Here is what each maker says.
The buying guide
How to choose a washing machine under 20000
Capacity
7 kg suits 3 to 4 people. Take 8 kg for a family of 4 to 5 or for bedding.
Inverter or not
An inverter motor costs a little more but runs quieter and uses less power.
Heater
Only the Haier here has an in-built heater. It helps with stains and cold mornings.
Warranty
Look for 2 years on the machine and 10 years on the motor.
Service
Check that your city has a service centre for the brand before you buy.
Where to buy
Prices on Amazon and Flipkart are often within ₹500 of each other. Check both buy boxes.

Specs and warranty terms are from the maker pages. Prices move daily.
1 · Should I buy the 7 kg LG or an 8 kg machine?
Take the LG if you are 3 to 4 people and want the inverter motor and lower power use. Take the Samsung 8 kg (₹19,490) for 4 to 5 people, or the Whirlpool 8 kg (₹17,990) to save ₹1,500.
2 · Is the Godrej front loader a good buy?
It is the cheapest front loader I found at ₹17,990 and gives 5 years comprehensive. The offer needs online registration and can be withdrawn, it spins at only 670 rpm and the listing shows few features.
3 · Why is Bosch last?
It has a good build and a dual lint filter, but it costs ₹19,090 with fewer listed features than the Samsung or LG, and Bosch has a smaller service network.
Other washing machines I looked at
Larger front loaders. Front loaders with steam, 1,200 rpm and AI start well above ₹20,000, so they sit outside this guide.
Haier 8 kg without the heater. It is cheaper, but the heater model is the one I found with matching Amazon and Flipkart prices.
Midea, Onida, Kenstar and realme. They sell cheap machines, but their service reach is narrower than the brands above.
The verdict

Best Lint Control: Bosch 8 kg 5 Star PowerWave Fully Automatic Top Load Washing Machine, at ₹19,090. Check price
Not sure? Take the LG 7 kg 5 Star Smart Inverter Top Load Washing Machine at ₹18,990 if 7 kg is enough. Take the Samsung 8 kg for a bigger family, or the Whirlpool 8 kg to save money.

Best washing machine under 20000 FAQ
What is the best washing machine under 20000?
The LG 7 kg Smart Inverter at ₹18,990 is the best overall. For 8 kg, the Samsung 8 kg Digital Inverter at ₹19,490 is the best choice.
Which is the cheapest 8 kg machine here?
The Whirlpool 8 kg Magic Clean and the Godrej front loader are both ₹17,990. The Whirlpool is a top loader with 10 years on the motor.
Which has the lowest power use?
The Samsung 8 kg lists 0.0083 kWh per kg per cycle and the LG 7 kg 0.0088. The Whirlpool lists 0.0104, IFB 0.0106 and Godrej 0.0107. Other listings do not state it clearly, so check the BEE label.
Which brand gives the longest warranty?
IFB gives 4 years on the product and 10 years on the motor. Godrej lists 5 years comprehensive, but you register online and the offer can be withdrawn.
Is a front loader better than a top loader?
Front loaders are gentler and use less water, but cost more and you cannot add clothes mid cycle. Under ₹20,000 the top loaders here give more features and longer motor warranties.
Is an inverter motor worth it?
It runs quieter and uses less power. The LG and Samsung both back it with 10 years of motor cover.
Do I need a stabiliser?
The listings do not require one. If your voltage swings a lot, a stabiliser protects the motor and board.
Where should I buy?
Amazon and Flipkart both list most of these. Prices were seen on 26 October 2026 and change often. The buy box under each review shows the latest price.
