The iPhone Duo costs ₹2,99,900 in India. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 costs ₹1,79,999. Both open into a 7.6 inch screen, neither has a telephoto lens and neither comes with a charger in the box. The sticker gap is ₹1,19,901, and it is ₹1,24,901 once each brand’s best card offer is applied.

So will Indians really pay ₹3 lakh for a phone, and is the Duo worth that much more than Samsung’s foldable? We went through Apple India and Samsung India’s live pages on launch day (23 October 2026) and read the analyst numbers on how India buys expensive phones. Here is where we landed.
The short answer
- A volume hit? Unlikely. Analysts expect a niche first year of roughly 1.5 to 2 lakh units at best.
- A value hit? Possibly. Apple already earns a high share of India’s smartphone revenue from relatively few buyers, and a ₹3 lakh phone adds a lot per unit.
- Value for money? The Galaxy Z Fold8 wins on rupees. The Duo costs about 67% more for the same screen size.
- Will the price drop? Not soon, in our view. Expect discounts through cards, trade-in and festive offers, not a list price cut.
- Who should buy the Duo? Someone already invested in iPhone, Apple Watch and AirPods who can pay without stretching.
Duo vs Fold8: what you really pay

| Storage | iPhone Duo | Galaxy Z Fold8 | Gap |
|---|---|---|---|
| 256GB | ₹2,99,900 | ₹1,79,999 | ₹1,19,901 |
| 512GB | ₹3,24,900 | ₹1,99,999 | ₹1,24,901 |
| 256GB after best card offer | ₹2,92,900 | ₹1,67,999 | ₹1,24,901 |
The card offers are not identical. Apple lists ₹7,000 instant cashback on Amex, Axis Bank and ICICI Bank cards. Samsung lists ₹5,000 off at checkout plus a ₹7,000 bank discount on HDFC, Axis, ICICI and SBI credit cards for full payment, valid until 31 October 2026. Samsung says its exchange bonus cannot be combined with the bank discount. The Duo’s trade-in credit runs from ₹4,500 to ₹81,500 on Apple’s page, but the top figure is for a best case phone.
Will Indians actually pay ₹3 lakh?
Indians do buy expensive phones, but mostly on EMI, and that changes the question. Counterpoint Research says phones above ₹30,000 made up 22% of India’s 2025 smartphone shipments, and that nearly two thirds of premium purchases through mainline retail were financed. Apple customers had the longest average financing tenure, 17.2 months, in the April to June quarter of 2026. Apple also held a record 28% share of India’s smartphone market by value in 2025.
The other side of the picture is softer. IDC expects Apple’s India shipments to fall by a single digit in 2026 after selling about 14.3 million iPhones in 2025, and Counterpoint says April to June was Apple’s first quarterly decline in nearly four years. Counterpoint’s Tarun Pathak expects the Duo not to lift volumes soon and says some buyers may simply purchase it abroad. IDC’s Upasana Joshi calls it “additive, not transformative”, and TechARC’s Faisal Kawoosa describes it as ultra niche at first, with wider adoption possible over six to nine months.
Estimates for the Duo itself come from Mint. It cites analysts for 1.5 to 2 lakh units in the first full year. Against roughly 40 million active iPhones in India (Counterpoint), 2 lakh units is about 0.5% of the base. Apple has not given any number, so treat these as estimates.
Samsung already has the foldable market largely to itself. Counterpoint expects Samsung to hold nearly 89% of India’s foldable shipments in 2026, with the average foldable selling at about $1,800, roughly five times the overall Indian smartphone average. IDC projects 800,000 to 850,000 foldables in India this year. If the Duo did sell 2 lakh units, it would become a big slice of that market quickly, and that is the part nobody can confirm yet.
The EMI reality: monthly outgo decides it
For most buyers the decision is the monthly figure, not the sticker. Here is how the two phones compare on the plans their own India pages show.
| Plan | iPhone Duo 256GB | Galaxy Z Fold8 256GB |
|---|---|---|
| Shortest no cost plan | 6 months at about ₹48,817 a month | 18 months at ₹9,999.94 a month |
| Lowest monthly figure shown | ₹26,574 for 12 months, with interest | ₹8,583 for 24 months (Galaxy Forever) |
| Total paid on that plan | ₹3,18,888 | About ₹2,05,999, including Care+ and buyback option |
| Longest interest free plan | 6 months | 24 months (Galaxy Forever) |
The Duo’s ₹26,574 a month is a 12 month EMI at 15.99% a year on ₹2,92,900, so you repay ₹18,988 more than the sticker price. We reverse checked this against all four Duo storage models and it matches Apple’s “from” figures to the rupee.

Samsung’s Galaxy Forever is ₹7,500 a month (₹1,79,999 over 24 months) plus a ₹1,083.29 a month program fee shown on its page, which adds up to the ₹8,583 headline. In return Samsung lists Samsung Care+ worth ₹32,999 with accidental and liquid damage cover and zero deductible for 25 months, and an assured buyback of up to 55%. The ₹2,05,999 total is our arithmetic from those numbers.
How much monthly EMI is sensible? A common rule of thumb is to keep EMIs at 10 to 15 percent of monthly take home pay. It is not a bank rule and your own budget matters more, but it shows who the two phones are really for.

On that rule the Duo’s cheapest EMI suits someone taking home roughly ₹1.8 to ₹2.7 lakh a month. The Fold8’s 18 month EMI suits roughly ₹67,000 to ₹1 lakh. That is a big difference in who can comfortably say yes.
Spec by spec

| iPhone Duo | Galaxy Z Fold8 | |
|---|---|---|
| Inner screen | 7.6 inch, 120Hz ProMotion | 7.6 inch (19.32 cm), Dynamic AMOLED 2X |
| Outer screen | 5.4 inch | About 5.4 inch (13.84 cm) |
| Chip | A20 Pro | Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy |
| Rear cameras | 48MP main, 48MP ultra wide, no telephoto | 50MP main, 50MP ultra wide, no telephoto |
| Video playback claim | Up to 44 hours outer, 31 hours inner (Apple) | Up to 26 hours (Samsung) |
| Battery | Capacity not published by Apple | 4,800 mAh typical |
| Weight | 254g (reported) | 201g |
| Water resistance | IP68 (reported) | Rated for 1.5m, 30 minutes; not dust resistant |
| In the box | No power adapter | No travel adapter |
The screens are almost the same size, so what you pay for on the Duo is the brand, the build and iOS rather than a bigger display. The Fold8 is lighter by about 53g if the Duo’s reported weight holds. The video playback figures come from each company’s own test conditions and are not directly comparable. We have not tested either phone.
Protection and repair cost
This is where the two companies differ the most. AppleCare+ for the Duo is ₹51,900 at Apple India checkout. It covers accidents for a service fee each time and does not cover theft or loss. Reported repair prices without AppleCare+ are ₹1,49,900 for the inner display and ₹42,900 for the outer display, so one inner screen repair costs about 83% of the price of a whole Fold8.
Samsung’s Care+ is sold from ₹778 a month on 18 months No Cost EMI, and the Galaxy Forever plan includes it. It repairs only at authorised Samsung service centres. Samsung also advertises Smart Switch to move data from an iPhone, which tells you who it expects to win over.
Will the iPhone Duo price drop?
Our read, and it is only a read: not soon. Apple raised prices on some existing India models after its latest launch, and Reuters linked that to higher memory costs. Supply is reportedly tight too. A figure of about 6,000 units for week one has been reported, but Apple has not confirmed it. With stock tight and memory costs high, there is little pressure to cut the list price.
Where real savings will come from: card cashback (₹7,000 today), trade-in (₹4,500 to ₹81,500) and festive retailer offers. Samsung’s Fold8 is already discounted, with ₹5,000 off at checkout and the ₹7,000 bank offer running to 31 October. The gap between the two is more likely to narrow through Samsung’s next move than through Apple’s.
What is still unconfirmed
- First week supply: the 6,000 unit figure is a report, not an Apple statement.
- Delivery dates: some launch day orders reportedly show delivery as late as January 2027. Check your own pincode at checkout.
- Grey market: resellers are reportedly asking up to ₹50,000 above retail. Those buyers risk losing warranty and support.
- Repair prices: the ₹1,49,900 and ₹42,900 figures come from a secondary report of Apple’s repair page.
- Real world performance: independent reviews of the Duo are still to come, and the battery and camera claims here are the companies’ own.
So which should you buy?
- You want the best foldable for the money: the Galaxy Z Fold8. It is ₹1.2 lakh cheaper, lighter, has a 24 month interest free option and bundles damage cover.
- You live in Apple’s world and money is not the constraint: the iPhone Duo. You are paying for iOS, the titanium build and the first Apple foldable.
- You want a Duo but would have to stretch: wait. First generation phones get reviewed hard in the first month, and festive offers may help.
- You want the strongest Samsung camera: look at the Fold8 Ultra, which has a 200MP main and a 3x telephoto, but price it separately.
This is general information, not financial advice. EMI rates, offers and fees are set by Apple, Samsung and your card issuer, so check the exact terms before you pay.
iPhone Duo vs Galaxy Z Fold8 FAQs
Which is better value in India, the iPhone Duo or the Galaxy Z Fold8?
On price alone it is the Galaxy Z Fold8. The 256GB Fold8 is ₹1,79,999 against ₹2,99,900 for the Duo, a gap of ₹1,19,901. The Duo makes sense mainly for people already deep in Apple’s ecosystem who can pay without stretching.
Why is the iPhone Duo ₹1.2 lakh costlier than the Galaxy Z Fold8?
Nobody outside Apple knows the full split. One published estimate puts import duty at roughly ₹36,000 on a phone that is shipped in finished, while Samsung builds the Fold8 in India. That leaves a large part of the gap down to Apple’s pricing and margin choices, which Apple does not disclose.
Will the iPhone Duo price drop in India?
Apple has announced no price cut. Our read is that a list price cut in the first few months is unlikely, and that the real discounts will come through card cashback, trade-in and festive retailer offers. That is our opinion, not a company statement.
Will the iPhone Duo sell well in India?
Analysts quoted by Indian media expect a niche first year. One estimate puts it at 1.5 to 2 lakh units, which is around 0.5% of India’s roughly 40 million active iPhones. Apple’s India value share is high, so even a small volume can matter to Apple’s revenue.
Is there No Cost EMI on the iPhone Duo?
Yes, but only for 3 and 6 months. On the 256GB model the 6 month figure is about ₹48,817 a month after the ₹7,000 cashback. Longer plans, including the ₹26,574 a month 12 month plan, carry interest.
What monthly EMI does the Galaxy Z Fold8 have in India?
Samsung India lists ₹9,999.94 a month for 18 months at no extra cost on the 256GB model, which is ₹1,79,999 spread evenly. Its Galaxy Forever plan is listed from ₹8,583 a month over 24 months and includes Samsung Care+.
Does the Galaxy Z Fold8 come with a charger in India?
No. Samsung’s box contents are the phone, a data cable and an ejection pin, and it says the Fold8 does not include a travel adapter. The iPhone Duo also ships without a power adapter.
Should the iPhone Duo be compared with the Fold8 or the Fold8 Ultra?
The base Fold8. Like the Duo it has a 50MP style two camera setup with no telephoto lens. The Fold8 Ultra adds a 200MP main camera and a 3x telephoto, and it costs more, so it is a different class of phone.
