During this ongoing coronavirus pandemic, OTT platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Disney+ Hotstar have seen an immense rise in popularity. Disney+ Hotstar is now introducing a new subscription plan in their application, and with this new addition, the two-tier subscription plan has moved to three. This new plan has been introduced to give the viewers more choices. Disney-owned streaming company Hotstar unveiled this new subscription plan during a recent virtual event. Along with the addition of the new plan, Hotstar has also removed the VIP subscription and merged all the movies and TV shows that were only available for the paid members under one subscription model.
Disney+ Hotstar New Subscription Model
During the virtual event, the company not only announced the new subscription plan but also the new Hotstar specials and Disney+ Hotstar multiplex movies. The new subscription plan has been given the following names:
- Mobile-only Disney+ Hotstar Mobile plan
- Mid-tier Disney+ Hotstar Super plan
- High-tier Disney+ Hotstar Premium plan.
You can get Disney+ Hotstar Mobile and Super plans by paying Rs. 499 and Rs. 899 per year, respectively. Whereas, the high-tier Disney+ Hotstar Premium plan is available at Rs. 1,499 per year. However, as we have already mentioned in this article, Hotstar has eliminated its VIP plan from the subscription list which was priced at Rs 399 per year.
More Details On New Plans
Many people will find this new Disney+ Hotstar Mobile plan almost identical to Netflix’s mobile-only subscription plan, which in reality is similar to each other to some extent. We are saying so because both platforms allow users to access their content library on a single mobile device. Moreover, under this Hotstar Mobile plan, users will have the access to enjoy HD video quality.
Talking about the Disney+ Hotstar Super plan, it will give them access to users to stream movies and TV shows on up to two devices simultaneously. Most importantly, both devices can be different. For example, one can be mobile and the other can be a PC. Moreover, under this Hotstar Super plan also, users will have the access to enjoy their program in HD video quality.
Lastly, you won’t find much difference in the premium plan, except the new addition that allows users to stream on four devices simultaneously. Previously, premium users were only given the option of streaming on two devices simultaneously. Along with all these features, premium users are exclusively provided with the option of streaming video in 4K quality.
When These New Plans Will Be Available To Users?
It’s clearly noticeable that the new Disney+ Hotstar plans provide more flexibility to its users. The company has taken hints from the Netflix subscription model – modified it a bit – and made a completely new subscription plan for their application.
Giving a statement regarding the new subscription plan, the Chief and President of Disney+ Hotstar, Sunil Narayan said that, “With the newly introduced subscription plans, we want to make our content more accessible to our viewers by offering best in class entertainment while giving them an opportunity to choose the plans that best suits their needs”.
