Qualcomm Snapdragon 678 announced, 11nm Mobile Platform with up to 2.2 GHz

Qualcomm just announced the Snapdragon 678, the company’s next-generation Mobile Platform for the budget smartphones and the successor of Snapdragon 675 that was introduced back in 2018. This new The SD 678 Mobile Platform is expected to arrive in consumer devices in 2021.

The new Snapdragon 678 is built on the 11nm LLP process and is quite similar to its predecessor Snapdragon 675 with the only change being the overclocked Cortex A76 cores working at up to 2.2GHz clock speed compared to 2.0Ghz clock speed on the 675.

It has the same Qualcomm Adreno 612 GPU, which the company says has been improved compared to the previous SD 675. It offers faster speeds with greater efficiency.

On the connectivity side, the Snapdragon 678 comes with the 4G SoC and Qualcomm Snapdragon X12 LTE modem that can deliver download and upload speeds of 600Mbps and 150Mbps, respectively. It supports 4G dual-SIM, dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, GLONASS, Beidou, GPS, Galileo, QZSS, and SBAS.

It also supports USB 3.1 with USB Type-C interface and support for Qualcomm Quick Charge 4+ technology. In terms of the camera sensor, the SD 678 features the Qualcomm Spectra 250L image processor, which is capable of handling dual-camera setups up to 16MP and single cameras up to 48MP. It can support recording up to 4K video at 30fps, 1080p video at up to 120fps, and 720p video at up to 240fps.

On the display side, SD 678 support full-HD+ display (1,080×2,520 pixels) resolution with up to 10-bit colour depth. It can also support up to 4K UHD external display. In terms of audio, this 678 offer Qualcomm TrueWireless Stereo Plus technology, Qualcomm aptX audio technology and Qualcomm Aqstic audio technology.
